There are several reasons you might want to test for hepatitis, from immunity for healthcare workers to sexual health concerns. Our tests are quick and easy with fast results.

At our clinic, we offer to screen for all strains of Hepatitis (A, B, C, D and E), a viral disease causing inflammation of the liver. The most common types of hepatitis are B and C, and A is usually the least severe. In most cases, hepatitis is caused by infection, but can also develop as a result of drug or alcohol use. Hepatitis carries a range of symptoms, including loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, dark urine, light-coloured stools, and jaundice. In milder cases, an infected person may show no symptoms at all.

When should I get tested?

You should get tested if you experience symptoms, or if you know you have been exposed to someone who has hepatitis. Hepatitis viruses can be transmitted from an infected person via blood and bodily fluids such as saliva, semen and vaginal secretions. Some strains of hepatitis are passed on during unprotected oral, vaginal or anal sex, or by sharing needles to inject drugs.

What the test includes

Hepatitis testing is always done with a blood sample, taken by a doctor or a nurse. See our specific pages for more information on Hepatitis B and C and the kinds of Hepatitis screenings and vaccinations we offer.

What to Expect

Step 1
Preparing for test
Hepatitis tests require a small blood sample. It is recommended that you ensure you are well hydrated in advance of having your blood taken, as it will make the procedure easier.
Step 2
During the test
The doctor or the nurse will take a blood sample which will then be sent to the laboratory for processing.
Step 3
Results
We offer you choice in how you receive your results, whether by phone call, over email, by hard copy through the post, or by collection in-person.
